5 Great Cafes for a Meetup in Orchard… Other Than Starbucks

IMG_3451

Today, I thought I would share some of my favourite cafes in the Orchard area of Singapore, other than Starbucks, that are great for meeting up with friends, for business or even a date.  Don’t get me wrong– I definitely love my tall americano chez Starbucks every once in a while, but the problem with most of the Starbucks cafes in Orchard is that they are always packed and super noisy.  Plus, it’s nice to change it up sometimes.

For me a good cafe is one that is:

-Clean

-Not too noisy

-Has Aircon

-Has delicious coffee/tea

-Is comfortable

-Likely to have space and does not require hunting a chair

So here are some of my faves:

For a Business Meeting:  10 Scott’s at The Grand Hyatt

I hesitate to even write about this place because I love it so much and don’t want it to be overrun with people!  This cafe is quiet, chic and has comfy chairs.  It is the perfect atmosphere for a business meetup.  There is a selection of coffee, teas, cocktails and pretty much anything you would want.  You can also order light bites or choose from their little buffet of snacks.  They also serve high-tea with sweet treats.  Personally, I like to keep it simple if I’m there to meet someone, so I usually order a Japanese Sencha Green Tea.

For a Cafe with a View: Salt Bar and Grill (at the top of ION)

If you want to have a coffee in the clouds with a great view of the city, take the elevators up to the top of ION Orchard and have a cappuccino at the Salt Bar.  Of course they have a variety of beverages- hot and cold, and with or without alcohol.  They serve high-tea with light bites and mini desserts, but it’s also a lovely place to stop for a coffee on a daytime date 🙂

For a Tea Time with The Girls:  Arteastique at Mandarin Gallery

This little cafe is known for their gorgeous teas and their art jamming studio next door.  I love meeting my girlfriends here and booking a table near the windows overlooking Orchard.  There is a nice natural light, and lounge-y chairs.  The ambiance is girly, chic and quiet enough to have a proper conversation. The teas arrive on pretty platters and are just as much a treat to look at as they are to drink.  I love the iced lychee tea!

For a Nut-Milk Alternative to Lattes and Cappuccinos: Oriole Cafe at Pan Pacific Hotel (by 313 Somerset Side Entrance by H&M)

This little cafe has a super cool vibe and is sort of hidden behind the Pan Pacific hotel in between the back part of Somerset 313.  They have their own signature nut milk which is made from a combo of macadamia nuts, almonds and dates, and is a great alternative for those sensitive to dairy (like me!)  They take pride in the way they hand brew their coffee and there are a variety of yummy food items to choose from as well, including the very popular USA favorite: Avocado toast.

For an Anytime Catch-Up: Paul at Takashimaya

This Euro chain is always a good, easy option for any kind of meetup.  It’s casual and almost always has space during the week (weekends are very busy).  There are food options, coffee and tea.  It has natural light, and cool air con- All the simple things I like to have when meeting up for a coffee.

Side note–I just don’t understand how people here can have a hot cup of coffee sitting outside in Singapore!? Is it just me, or is that a little cray? Anyway, I have some other faves in the area, but I think I’ll save them for another post.  What are your favorite cafes in Orchard?  If you know of any hidden treasures, let me know!
